JSO said on Jan. 5, a man who lives on Creeks Ridge Road heard a gunshot close to his home. He thought his home was hit by gunfire, so he walked outside and saw Manalon’s son in the garage of a nearby house holding a rifle. The man called the police.

Officers arrived and saw the son in the garage with the rifle and commanded him to drop it and exit the garage. He complied and was handcuffed. JSO said his father then appeared in the garage and picked up the rifle and pointed it at the officers.

Officers G. Hernandez, M. Ross, and Q. Kincaid fired their handguns and hit Manalon, who went back into the house.

SWAT was called to the home as Manalon barricaded himself in the home. After three hours, SWAT threw tear gas into the home. The sheriff’s office said that Manalon moved to the back porch, where officers deployed a K-9 to take him into custody.

Paramedics took him to the hospital and he was in stable condition, JSO said.
