COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – A wanted man took Columbia County deputies on a high-speed chase that ended in his arrest on Friday.

On Friday, around 6:30 p.m., a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputy spotted a red Ford pickup truck linked to a Lake City Police Department’s Be-On-The-Lookout (BOLO) alert.

The truck that had a blown headlight and an expired tag left a Wendy’s parking lot and got onto State Road 47 toward Columbia County when the deputy attempted a traffic stop.

The driver, who was identified as Samuel Watson, 48, sped off onto CR-240, hitting over 100 mph while trying to avoid the deputy, according to CCSO.

CCSO said Watson then fishtailed, lost control and overturned onto the passenger side.

A passenger exited the vehicle first. After the deputy commanded, Watson got out of the truck.

Watson was taken to the hospital, where he was medically cleared, and then arrested. The passenger was uninjured, according to deputies.

The passenger did not face any charges and was released.

Watson was charged with fleeing and eluding, driving with a suspended license, and other drug-related charges.
