YULEE, Fla. – A Jacksonville man who was reportedly on the run from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was captured in Yulee after the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect led deputies on a dramatic high-speed chase that was recorded on a dash-cam.
Raymond Kenneth Jackson Jr., 46, is currently facing one count of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer after deputies say he rammed his car into a patrol K-9 unit.
He is also facing one count of aggravated fleeing and eluding law enforcement. Both charges are first-degree felonies. News4JAX is actively trying to get information on the charges Jackson is facing from JSO.
According to the Nassau County arrest report, last Friday night, Nassau County deputies got word that Jackson had fled Jacksonville and entered Nassau County. The Jacksonville police community response team was already in route to Nassau County to locate and apprehend Jackson when NCSO deputies were notified.
JSO and NCSO deputies split up and began searching for Jackson’s car.
As a deputy was traveling Westbound on State Road 200, he spotted Jackson’s car making a turning onto the same road. The deputy followed Jackson’s car long enough for other deputies and JSO officers to get close.
As deputies and officers got close, the car drove onto the shoulder and began ran a red light, which started a chase.
News4JAX obtained dashcam video and bodycam video which captured the chase and Jackson’s eventual arrest. Jackson’s white four-door Infinity sedan is seen entering a Goodwill parking lot and traveling towards the exit, where it was blocked by a deputy K-9 patrol unit. The sedan turns around and travels back toward the entrance. The K-9 patrol unit then drove toward the entrance to block the sedan once again. But this time, there was small opening between the K-9 unit and a dumpster. Investigators said Jackson tried to squeeze his car though that opening when it collided with the K-9 patrol unit. The video shows the collision causing the sedan to stop. Another patrol unit came up from behind and rammed into the car to keep it from pulling into reverse.
Bodycam video showed deputies ordered Jackson to get on the ground before climbing over the wreckage to take him into custody at gunpoint. During the arrest, Jackson is heard yelling, “That was my brand-new car.”
Jackson was later booked into the Nassau County jail.
JSO processed Jackson’s car and had it removed as evidence.
The arrest report stated Jackson had outstanding warrants but did not clarify if those warrants are from JSO or another jurisdiction.
Events leading up to the chase in Nassau County remain under investigation by JSO.
