Second arrest made in Christmas Eve shooting that left 55-year-old man dead, JSO says

Both men who have been arrested face murder charge

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said on Thursday that it has arrested the second of two suspects accused of fatally shooting a man on Christmas Eve.

According to police, Gregory Woods, 60, was located by the U.S. Marshals Task Force on Wednesday and subsequently arrested. The other suspect in the case, 38-year-old Amen Mathis, was arrested early Christmas morning.

On Christmas Eve, officers responded to reports of a shooting on St. Augustine Road near Emerson Street.

Upon arrival, a 55-year-old man, later identified as Kenneth Lockhart, was found with multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.

JSO’s investigation led to the discovery of surveillance footage, which showed Lockhart arguing with Mathis and Woods, police said. The footage also shows the man shooting him “multiple times” before running away.

Both men are facing a murder charge and are being held at the Duval County Jail.
