PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – Evacuations are now lifted for about 20 homes that were affected by the more than 300-acre brush fire in Interlachen on Saturday, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said.

Keuka Road will remain closed as crews prepare to conduct burn out operations. PCSO said this will allow Florida Forest Service to help strengthen containment lines put into place by crews.

Putnam County Fire Rescue said the brush fire started as an escaped pile burn which quickly grew due to the wind. The sheriff’s office is asking people to not burn yard debris due to high winds.

Interlachen residents and people in surrounding areas should expect heavy smoke for the next 48 hours and drivers are asked to stay off roadways as visibility is limited.
