Jacksonville man critically wounded in Park Street shooting, JSO investigates

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that left a man in his late 20s with life-threatening injuries early Saturday morning.

JSO’s Robbery and Violent Crimes Unit said officers responded around 1:20 a.m. to a block on Park Street near Riverside Park after reports of a person shot.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported to a local hospital by Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

Preliminary investigation shows the victim was involved in an altercation with a suspect while standing in a parking lot with a group of individuals. Investigators say that during the confrontation, the suspect produced a handgun and shot the victim.

Officers arrived shortly after the shooting and detained all parties involved. Authorities confirmed this was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the public.

Crime Scene Detectives are processing the scene for evidence, while Robbery and Violent Crimes detectives are interviewing witnesses and canvassing for video footage.
