JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Officials with Jacksonville Fire and Rescue on Thursday night said that a man was found dead after a mobile home caught on fire near the Sunbeam neighborhood.
JFRD said the person was found dead inside a bedroom where the fire is believed to have originated, and, per protocol, the matter will be investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as a homicide.
According to the agency, the fire took place on Neal Drive, and crews arrived at the scene after receiving calls about the incident around 9 p.m.
Upon arrival, crews conducted their search, which led them to find the man in a bedroom. After taking the man out of the home, the man was declared dead around 9:24 p.m.
The agency added that no one else was found in the residence.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The incident marks the third structure that caught fire on Thursday, and the second fatality due to a fire in 2026, the agency said.
