Crews contain fast-moving wildfire in Putnam County, protecting 25 homes from ‘erratic’ flames

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – Crews from the Florida Forest Service and Putnam County fire rescue responded to a fast-moving wildfire north of Bardin Thursday afternoon.

As of 6 p.m., the fire was about 20 acres.

Officials said the fire exhibited erratic behavior by spotting embers ahead of the fire and threatening 25 homes.

According to the Florida Forest Service, firefighters quickly caught the spot fires while establishing containment lines around the fire’s perimeter. No homes were damaged or destroyed and are no longer considered threatened.

Residents and drivers can expect smoky conditions near the fire area. Smoke signs have been requested for State Road 100 westbound and northbound at County Road 309C and eastbound and southbound at Q.I. Roberts School and Holloway Road.
