DCPS adjusts headquarters relocation plan after Chase Properties requests to terminate purchase agreement

Duval County Public Schools (WJXT)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Duval County Public Schools said on Thursday it is adjusting its administrative headquarters relocation plans after it received notification from Chase Properties of its intent to terminate the agreement to purchase the district’s Southbank headquarters.

The agreement, approved by the School Board in a 4–3 vote on Nov. 4, 2025, would have allowed Chase Properties to acquire the riverfront site for $17.2 million and pursue a mixed-use redevelopment including residential and commercial space.

During that same school board meeting in November, the Board also evaluated a $13.65 million purchase of the Dream Finders building on Prominence Parkway off Baymeadows Road as its potential new headquarters. The proposed purchase included $650,000 for personal property, such as office furniture, with the remaining $13 million allocated for the building itself.

The purchase of Prominence Parkway also passed with a 4 to 3 vote.

However, as a result of Chase Properties’ decision, DCPS said it has exercised its option to terminate its related purchase contract with Dream Finders Homes.

“These actions are consistent with the School Board’s direction to avoid owning two properties simultaneously and to minimize unnecessary financial or operational overlap during any transition period,” DCPS wrote in a news release.

District officials emphasized that DCPS is reviewing appropriate next steps with a focus on fiscal responsibility, long-term operational efficiency, and stewardship of taxpayer resources, while continuing to prioritize the needs of students and staff.

At this time, no new timeline has been established for future proposals or decisions. Updates will be shared on the district’s official website.

DCPS will continue operating from its current Prudential Drive location while it evaluates the future of its headquarters.
