Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported assault at a bar and found the victim on the front patio. The man told the deputies that he was trying to de-escalate a verbal altercation when he was “battered” by John H. Tiedemean, 49.

Deputies detained Tiedeman during a traffic stop and he was arrested for battery on a person 65 years or older, which is a felony.

JSO said that Tiedeman is a 27-year veteran patrol officer assigned to District 2. Because of the arrest, Tiedeman was reassigned to the Tele-Serv Unit pending the criminal investigation.
