PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – Poor visibility conditions in the Interlachen area prompted a road closure Thursday morning that impacted some school bus routes, according to the Putnam County School District.

Keuka Road is currently closed from Strickland to Como Circle, officials said. And as a result, bus routes for Robert H. Jenkins Elementary, Ochwilla Elementary, and Interlachen Jr.-Sr. High School may experience delays or temporary interruptions in the affected area, according to the school district.

“We are continuing to monitor conditions closely and will provide updates if additional closures or route adjustments become necessary,” the district said.

According to the sheriff’s office, a mixture of smoke and fog prompted the closure on Keuka Road, and it said it was monitoring conditions on State Road 20 and County Road 315.

The sheriff’s office said all other areas are open, but there is reduced visibility, which is why it urged drivers to go slow and plan extra time when heading out this morning.

On Wednesday evening, the Florida Highway Patrol said it was monitoring another wildfire in the area of Cowbay Road and Environmental Boulevard in Palatka and advised that it may affect some roadways.

This is separate from the area of concern that the sheriff’s office is watching on Keuka Road.

“Motorists are reminded to reduce their speed as necessary to avoid a collision and utilize their low beam headlights in order to adapt to changing weather conditions,” troopers said.
