According to the Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began Tuesday when a local electric supply store reported a suspicious purchase. Davila claimed to work for a local electric company and ordered copper wire valued at more than $2,800. He asked for the invoice to be emailed to an address later found to be fake. Investigators said Davila then signed for the materials and left with the merchandise.

The next day, the same store reported another order from Davila for multiple spools of copper wire valued at over $18,000. Investigators worked with the business to intercept Davila when he arrived to pick up the materials and arrested him on site.

Deputies said further investigation revealed Davila responded to Facebook ads posted by third parties offering electrical materials at discounted prices. These sellers provided pickup locations and contact names. Davila sent payments through Zelle and Caribbean Express money orders to the Dominican Republic but never met the sellers in person.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Davila told investigators he planned to use the materials for his self-employed electrical jobs or give them to his employer in exchange for a share of the cost.

He was booked into Nassau County Jail & Detention Center on a bond exceeding $35,000.
