JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man who spent years experiencing homelessness is set to move into his first home Monday after saving money while living and working at the Trinity Rescue Mission and getting help from a local real estate agent and donors.

Brian Fultson fell into homelessness after health problems and the loss of his finances led to job loss, the Trinity Rescue Mission said. While at the shelter, he worked and made a point of saving every dollar he earned. Over three years, he saved thousands of dollars and joined the shelter’s lifeline program.

Through a client referral, Fultson met Lena Williams of United Real Estate. Williams helped him on the path to homeownership and organized donations to make the move easier. She surprised Fultson with balloons and donated furniture as he prepares to move into a house that is still a work in progress.

“I wanted the yard because I didn’t want Brian to come out of the mission and come to his house and have to worry about … needing this, needing that,” Williams said.

She said she assembled a small team and collected donations so when he moves in, he doesn’t have to worry about furnishing the whole house.

“[Brian] trusted me to take him from the beginning to the end,” Williams said.
