Brush fire prompts evacuations on Moody Avenue in Clay County; officials stress no burn ban

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A rapidly spreading brush fire along Moody Avenue in Clay County has prompted evacuations, as fire rescue units and the Florida Forest Service battle the blaze amid strong winds and dry conditions.

Eleven Clay County Fire Rescue (CCFR) units were on the scene, along with Florida Forest Service officials, on Monday around 2 p.m.

The sheriff’s office said evacuations were underway for residents and businesses on Moody Avenue near the Sugar N Spice Preschool.

The staging location will be the Dye Clay Family YMCA at 3322 Moody Ave for residents who need to evacuate.

CCFR said the fire was under control.

A red flag warning was issued Monday for all of Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida.

A no-burn ban was also issued on Monday for Nassau, Duval, Clay, St. Johns and Flagler counties.
