Jacksonville Beach police on alert for possible ‘takeover’ parties at vacation rentals

Jacksonville Beach police are asking residents to be on the lookout for large house parties in short-term rental homes that could turn into takeover events this weekend.

While a beach takeover event was posted on social media after last Saturday’s shooting following a separate take over event, it has since been removed but police are concerned about chatter suggesting another takeover could be planned at rental homes in Jacksonville beach this weekend.

Commander Thom Bingham is asking Jacksonville beach residents to call them if they live next to a short- term rental home and a large crowd starts to gather.

Commander Bingham said extra officers will be working this weekend, just in case. He joined News4Jax Anchor Jennifer Waugh during News4JAX+ at 10 a.m. to explain how the department is preparing and also updated us about last Saturday’s shooting during a takeover event that ended with gunfire along 3rd street. 5 teenagers were wounded.
