GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – The Clay County Strawberry Festival wrapped up its second and final day at the Clay County Fairgrounds, drawing families for fresh fruit, food vendors and entertainment.

The event marked its 10th anniversary and featured more than 200 vendors offering handcrafted goods, fresh strawberries and specialty foods.

The fairgrounds also hosted family attractions, including monster truck displays and live entertainment that complemented the food stalls and vendor booths.

“Fresh strawberries and strawberry shortcake - it’s the best thing ever,” said Margaret Buckler, promoter of the festival.

Alice Warner said she made multiple trips to the fresh strawberries counter.

“Put a little sugar on it,” Warner said. “This is the third bowl I [have] bought since I’ve been here yesterday.”

Miguel Arce and Patricia Taylor found the strawberries to be delightful, but also made time for other shopping.

“Whatever we see, we like, we buy,” Taylor said.

Martha Bowden of Martha Jane’s James and Jellies said the crowds were active on the first day, selling out of one of her specially made jams.

“I do hot pepper ones. I do one called Jezebel that’s a specialty because it’s strawberry and Carolina reaper,” Bowden said. “That’s the hottest pepper you can get.”

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office posted a “Berry Important Traffic Alert” ahead of the festival, urging drivers to follow deputies and avoid parking on State Road 16.

Buckler said the weekend had very smooth operations with no traffic issues.

Up next, the Clay County Agricultural Fair is scheduled for April 2-12 at the fairgrounds in Green Cove Springs.
