Firefighters from Station 37 began resuscitation efforts immediately. JFRD said both animals were treated on scene, showed significant improvement and survived.

No residents or firefighters were injured in the fire.

JFRD said preliminary findings indicate the fire started in the laundry area and may have been caused by an electrical malfunction near a clothes dryer. Dryers are a common source of residential fires, so residents are encouraged to clean lint traps regularly and have any appliance electrical issues inspected immediately.
