Jacksonville only opening 26 of 34 city pools due to lifeguard shortage

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Are you looking to become a lifeguard this summer?

Well, you might have the opportunity because the City of Jacksonville is hiring lifeguards for the upcoming summer season.

Who can apply?

  • Anyone ages 15 and up looking to gain valuable work experience and serve their community
  • Applicants should also come prepared to swim as the following prerequisite skills are required:
    • 200-yard swim
    • 2 minutes of treading water without using hands
    • Retrieving a 10-pound brick from the bottom of the diving well

Applicants will receive instruction in water safety, rescue techniques, and CPR, equipping them with essential life-saving skills and confidence on the job.

What should you bring?

  • Change of clothes
  • Snacks
  • A notebook to take notes

How much does it pay?

  • The position’s starting pay is $15 per hour.
