ORANGE PARK, Fla. – The Orange Park Mall on Saturday canceled its Spring Fling Carnival due to “unforeseen circumstances.”
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has an increased presence at the mall, keeping a close eye on a planned “takedown” event. On Friday, it put out a statement about the situation.

We are, and have been aware, of a planned “takedown” event at the Orange Park Mall this weekend.
We have several units monitoring this situation closely, gathering vital information and have deputies prepared to be in the area.
We always track any major events and are well prepared. Our agency ensures that deputies are extremely prepared and maintain visibility. While we support safe and lawful gatherings, we do not support unlawful activity and will address any behavior that threatens public safety or disrupts our community.
We also want to urge parents to stay informed about who their children are spending time with, what their plans are and where they are going.

Before this planned takeover event, Clay County’s Spring Fling Carnival was supposed to happen Saturday at the mall, but has now been canceled.
The mall put out a statement on Facebook about the matter.

The sheriff’s office is urging parents to stay informed about who their children are spending time with, what their plans are and where they are going to help mitigate teen takeovers from escalating into something dangerous.
This comes just days after a teen takeover event on Wednesday at Blue Cypress Park in Arlington that ended in a brawl and three arrests.
