JSO said the men were hanging out at the apartment complex when an unknown person shot them.

A man believed to be in his 30s was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Around the same time, another man, believed to be between 35 and 40 years old, went to an emergency room on Merrill Road with a gunshot to the leg.

Mary Cipriamo, who has worked in health care, was just getting off work when she learned that a shooting had taken place in her neighborhood.

“This neighborhood, it’s not even that dangerous for me. I feel kind of safe. I’ve been hearing some stuff, but I never personally experienced anything here.”

As a health care worker, she said she’s worked with gunshot victims before, but this shooting had her concerned for herself and others.

“I care about saving people’s lives, helping other people,” Cipriamo said. “So when I heard about the gunshots, and somebody had just had died, I know I’ve seen it a lot, but just to experience it happening in our neighborhood, it feels really sad.”
