According to the arrest report for Kerry Edwards, on Sept. 25, 2025, Michael Marshall was hit by a car as he was walking across Moncrief Road near the Myrtle Avenue intersection.
The report said Marshall was also outside of the designated crosswalk when a Mazda CX-9 hit him.
JSO identified Edwards as the driver, and he was taken into custody. He was released on Oct. 3, but according to the arrest report, Edward’s charges were initially dropped because of “the inability to locate the victim in order to proceed with prosecution.”
Marshall was taken to the hospital and put under hospice care for lung cancer complications and injuries from the crash, but he died on January 4.
“It was unknown at the time that the victim was still receiving hospital care,” the report said.
The medical examiner’s office listed his cause of death as “struck by motor vehicle and subsequent fall.”
“Based on the findings of the Medical Examiner, the injuries sustained by Mr. Marshall during the traffic crash were determined to be a contributing cause of his death,” the report said.
Another arrest warrant was issued for Edwards under the charge of leaving the scene of a crash without rendering aid (resulting in death).
His bond was $50,003.
