Woman found dead outside near bulldogs on Alachua County property, investigation underway

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Authorities investigated the death of a 61-year-old woman found unresponsive near a fenced area housing two bulldogs on a family property in Alachua County on March 19.

Officers with the Alachua Police Department responded to a medical emergency around 7 p.m. on NW County Road 235. Upon arrival, first responders located the woman unresponsive on the ground near a gate on the property.

Alachua County Fire Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced the woman dead.

Preliminary information indicated the woman was a visiting family member who had been babysitting a young child at the residence. Family members returned to the property and discovered her unresponsive in the yard, with the child nearby. The child was not injured.

Investigators said the incident may have involved two bulldogs that had been secured in a fenced section of the property. Alachua County Animal Resources responded and took custody of both animals.

An Alachua Police Department detective and representatives from the Medical Examiner’s Office processed the scene and continued the investigation. Her cause of death was undetermined and pending autopsy results.

No additional details were being released at the time.
