For the parents of Lt. j.g. Madison Mooers, the send-off meant a cross-country trip. Frances and Joe Mooers traveled from California to Jacksonville to say farewell to their daughter before she deployed.

“We know we’re the best military force in the world, so we’re hoping that stands behind her and pray they bring everybody home safely,” Frances and Joe Mooers said.

The timing of this comes as the US is actively involved in the War in Iran

Navy officials said they could not confirm the USS Donald Cook’s specific role due to operational security reasons.

The Donald Cook’s departure comes just one day after the USS Mason also left Naval Station Mayport. Similar to the USS Mason, the ship’s main capabilities include ballistic missile defense and surface warfare.
