JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan and other city officials celebrated the opening of the Stockton Street Bridge on Wednesday morning, which is a part of the McCoys Creek restoration project.

Deegan and Jacksonville Public Works Director Nina Sickler joined the Engineering & Public Works Roadshow to explain how public works and engineering deliver projects in and around Northeast Florida that protect public safety, improve quality of life and strengthen communities.

The McCoys Creek project is a major infrastructure investment focused on reducing flooding, improving resilience and enhancing community connectivity. Organizers say it represents a national model by combining flood control, environmental restoration and multimodal connections.

The bridge features new sidewalks, bike paths and roadways.

“I like talking about the realities of the bridge,” Tyrona Clark-Murray, District 9 representative, said. “I know we’re celebrating and did the ribbon cutting today, but the fact is that this bridge is going to help the elevation. The new design is going to help save lives in this community.”

Groundwork Jacksonville said the city has committed more than $100 million to managing the McCoys Creek flooding and creating neighborhood spaces.
