Body discovered in 1984

On Sept. 1, 1984, Waycross Police Department officers discovered Davis’s body beside a home on Kollock Street in Waycross. She had been strangled. Waycross police later requested GBI assistance with the investigation.

Over the years, the GBI says its investigators and the Waycross Police Department remained committed to finding the truth behind Davis’s death. They say continued DNA testing ultimately linked Granger to the crime.

Arrest made Tuesday

Granger was taken into custody and booked into the Ware County Jail on Tuesday. The Waycross Police Department, the Ware County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Department of Community Supervision and the GBI’s Cold Case Unit assisted the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Douglas with the investigation, as well as in locating and arresting Granger.

The GBI says the investigation remains active and ongoing. Once complete, the case file will be forwarded to the Waycross Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
