Clay County deputies discover body of an unidentified man in burning vehicle near CR-218

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – The body of an unidentified man was found burned to death in early April, prompting the Clay County Sheriff’s Office to open a homicide investigation.

On April 6, the sheriff’s office and Clay County Fire Rescue responded to a vehicle fire near County Road 218 and N. Mimosa Ave.

Once the flames were extinguished, the body of an unidentified man was discovered in the vehicle.

The medical examiner’s office determined that the manner of death was a homicide.

Investigators said that the vehicle had possibly been parked in the same location since the morning of Sunday, April 5. However, it is believed that the fire did not start until that Monday afternoon.

This is an ongoing investigation. The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information or video surveillance to call 904-264-6512 and ask for Det. Nicole Mosley or remain anonymous and call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
