According to the reports, surveillance video from the Herlong Road business shows two men — later identified as McDaniel and his brother, Christopher McDaniel — approach the front door on Aug. 4, 2023.
The security guard, identified in the report as Calvin Johnson, tried to stop them. One of the suspects was seen holding a bag that concealed a handgun, and the report says Larry McDaniel pulled out a gun and fired multiple rounds.
Johnson suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen and was taken to UF Health with life-threatening injuries and survived.
Detectives used photo lineups and said Johnson identified both brothers as the suspects. The sheriff’s office issued a warrant Aug. 24, 2023, and arrested Larry McDaniel on Aug. 28 after officers located him at an apartment complex, the reports said.
At the time of the 2023 arrest, bond was set at $200,003 with conditions including GPS monitoring, no contact with the victim or witnesses or co-defendants, and no firearms or weapons. In April 2026, McDaniel pleaded guilty to both counts.
