According to JSO, District 5 Patrol officers responded to a parking lot on Edgewood Avenue North on the evening of Dec. 10 after reports of a shooting. Officers arrived to find two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both men were transported to the hospital, but 49-year-old Cory Denmark later died from his injuries. The second victim survived.

JSO’s Homicide Unit launched an investigation into Denmark’s death. Detectives spoke with witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage from the scene, which they say helped them identify Mitchell as the gunman.

Mitchell was taken into custody on Wednesday, May 20. Thompson and Brooks were also arrested this week.

“We will continue to work to bring justice to Denmark’s loved ones as Mitchell, Thompson, and Brooks face the legal system,” JSO said.
