AAA is activating its “Tow to Go” program in Florida for Memorial Day weekend, offering a free ride home for impaired drivers and their vehicles.

AAA says it expects to assist more than 350,000 drivers nationwide with car trouble during the holiday period and is also urging people not to drive after drinking or using impairing substances.

“We don’t want impaired people getting behind the wheel and risking the lives of everyone on the road,” said Mark Jenkins, a spokesperson for AAA – The Auto Club Group.

He said Tow to Go can serve as a last-resort backup plan for people who didn’t arrange a safe ride ahead of time.

The program provides a confidential ride for one person and their vehicle to a safe location within 10 miles. AAA says appointments can’t be scheduled in advance, and service may be limited in rural areas or during severe weather.

Tow to Go runs from 6 p.m. today through 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 26. It’s available in Florida and several other states and metro areas.

To use the service, call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO — that’s (855) 286-9246.

AAA says Tow to Go has provided safe rides to nearly 30,000 people since it began in 1998.
