On the highway

Are you cruising way above the speed limit? AAA says fuel economy drops fast once you’re over about 50 miles an hour.

Jackrabbit starts

Be honest: Are you doing “jackrabbit” starts? Hard acceleration burns more gas. AAA says smooth and steady driving saves fuel.

Idling in the driveway

Do you idle in the driveway to warm up? AAA says it’s unnecessary, and if you’re stopped more than 60 seconds, shut the engine off to save fuel.

Maintenance reminders

Two easy maintenance reminders from AAA: Keep your tires properly inflated, and don’t ignore that check engine light. AAA says it can hurt mileage.

Premium gas myth

AAA says unless your owner’s manual says you need it, premium gas doesn’t help.

Bottom line

Slow down, ease into acceleration, don’t idle and keep your car maintained. AAA says your wallet will notice!
