Good Samaritan drives man to hospital after drive-by shooting in Moncrief: JSO

Man shot in leg while walking at Moncrief Road and West 21st Street, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man in his 20s was driven to the hospital late Tuesday night by a good Samaritan after he was shot in the leg by someone in a passing car near Moncrief Road and 21st Street West, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

According to police, the call about shots fired in the area came in around 11 p.m., but officers did not find a victim. About an hour later, officers were called to an area hospital about a person with a gunshot wound.

Officers found the man, who was shot in the upper thigh. His injuries were listed as non-life-threatening.

Investigators said the man told them he was walking near Moncrief Road and 21st Street West when someone in a vehicle that was driving by started shooting at him, hitting him once in the thigh.

The man said a stranger passing in a vehicle gave him a ride to the hospital.

When officers went to the area the man described, they found the scene with multiple shell casings.

Investigators said it’s unclear if the man knew the shooter, but the incident appears to be isolated and not gang-related.
