Heavy police presence at Orange Park Mall, Sheriff says it appears to be a case of swatting

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – A large police presence could be seen at the Orange Park mall on Monday afternoon.

News4JAX could see several officers and police vehicles outside the mall when our crews arrived.

Sheriff Michelle Cook later posted on social media that early indications suggest this is a swatting call and deputies are investigating.

The FBI describes swatting as someone calling 911 and faking an emergency that draws a response from law enforcement, usually a SWAT team.

Sheriff Cook said these types of calls are dangerous and tie up an immense number of resources.
