JSO investigating shooting tied to fight in New Town neighborhood

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man was shot Thursday night near Windle Street and Tyler Street, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

Officers found a man in his mid-30s suffering from one gunshot wound to the abdomen. Family members took him to a local hospital, where he was listed in non-life-threatening condition, JSO said.

Investigators said the man and others were in a physical fight when someone in a white Dodge Charger pulled out a rifle and fired several shots, hitting the man once.

Detectives said it appears to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community.

Crime scene detectives are processing evidence, while robbery and violent crime detectives interview witnesses and look for surveillance video.
