JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – JEA customers in Jacksonville could soon see higher monthly bills. The utility’s Board of Directors is expected to consider a proposed rate increase affecting electric, water, and sewer services.

If approved, JEA says the average residential customer would pay more each month, depending on usage.

The company is proposing an overall 6.2% electric rate increase and an 8% water and sewer system increase, which could take effect in October of this year.

Back in March, JEA projected a budget shortfall of more than $107 million across its electric, water, and sewer systems.

The proposed rate increases are aimed at closing those financial gaps, but customers could feel the burden.

According to board meeting documents, residential customers could see higher electric bills, while apartment complexes and commercial customers could face larger increases on the water and sewer side.

JEA says the additional revenue generated by the rate increases would help cover rising costs of infrastructure and reliability as Jacksonville’s population continues to grow.

The board meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. and is open to the public. A link to the livestream is available here: live stream
