JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 12-year-old boy was shot in the leg Sunday night during an argument between two groups of kids at Clanzel Brown Park on Moncrief Road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Police said they were called to West 35th Street, across the street from the park, around 9 p.m. and found the boy with a gunshot wound to his left leg.
Paramedics took him to the hospital for treatment, but JSO did not indicate the extent of his injuries.
Investigators said they learned a group of juveniles had gathered at the park Sunday night when a dispute broke out. It’s unclear what sparked the argument, but some of the kids left and then came back to confront the other group of juveniles.
That’s when the gun was fired, and the boy was hit in the leg.
Police said the suspected shooter is believed to be a young man, possibly in his late teens, who ran off north on Moncrief Road after the shooting.
Crime Scene detectives recovered multiple casings at the scene of the incident. Investigators said there are no indications that the shooting was gang-related, and they do not believe there is any threat to the community.
