JSO investigating in-custody death of inmate awaiting transfer to Clay County

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating the in-custody death of an inmate on Sunday.

JSO said it was notified on Sunday just after 8 p.m. that Christopher James Lumpkin, 40, had died.

Lumpkin was arrested on Friday on a Clay County issued Writ of Attachment and was being held on detainer in Duval County pending transfer to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

He was being monitored while on drug detox protocols while in the pretrial detention facility.

JSO said its investigation so far has revealed no use-of-force incidents.

The Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released it’s results.
