Dashcam video shows PIT maneuver, man accused of abducting girl, 13, pointing gun at Marion County deputies

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – The Marion County Sheriff’s Office released dashcam video showing deputies use a PIT maneuver to stop a man accused of abducting a 13-year-old girl; the video then shows the man pointing a gun at deputies.

The man was then shot by deputies trying to apprehend him and he later died at a hospital.

The teen’s disappearance prompted a statewide Amber Alert. At the time, detectives said she may have been in the company of 45-year-old Jason Castillo.

Deputies confirmed with our news partners WKMG in Orlando that Castillo is the ex-boyfriend of the girl’s mother.

The sheriff’s office later said at 5:20 p.m. Monday evening, deputies located Castillo’s vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Castillo refused to stop and fled from deputies.

Deputies then conducted a PIT maneuver, disabling Castillo’s vehicle on U.S. Highway 441 near the intersection of County Road 25A. The sheriff’s office says as deputies tried to apprehend Castillo, shots were fired. Castillo was transported to a hospital, where he later died.

The sheriff’s office says the 13-year-old was located safely. No further details about her condition were provided.
