JSO identifies man shot, killed at Westside apartment complex

Jacksonville police looking for red Ford Explorer with chrome trim

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 48-year-old man died after he was shot Friday afternoon at a Westside apartment complex, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Officers were called about 3 p.m. to the Heritage on the River apartments off Confederate Point Road.

According to Sgt. Doug Molina, a man was found outside with a gunshot wound. The man, who was later identified as Harry Junior Graves, was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Investigators are looking for a newer model red Ford Explorer. It was said to have chrome trim, chrome door handles and a luggage rack.

Resident Gregory Hemry saw the crime scene during his daily walk through the neighborhood. He said it was an all-too-familiar sight.

"I see it. It's there every day. Morning, night -- doesn't matter what time of day," Hemry said. "Things like that happen too much."

In fact, the Sheriff's Office's crime map shows in the last three months, there have been more than 40 crimes reported within a mile of the apartment complex.

"It's dangerous," Hemry said. "It shouldn't be this dangerous, but it is."

No arrests were announced. The Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the murder.
