Man accused of killing wife allowed to move back to North Carolina

Michael Haim facing murder charge in wife's death 23 years ago

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man accused of murdering his wife 23 years ago and burying her body in the backyard of their Jacksonville home can move back to North Carolina while he awaits trial in Duval County, a judge ruled Thursday.

Michael Haim was allowed to leave the state for the holidays in December but was ordered to return to Jacksonville.

A judge said he can now return to live in North Carolina but that he must come back and be present for all hearings.

Circuit Judge Steve Whittington initially denied Haim bail, but an appeals court ordered him released on $200,000 bail.

Haim is accused of murdering his wife Bonnie Haim, who disappeared in 1993. Her remains were found in December 2014 by workers digging out an old pool in the backyard of the Dolphin Avenue home.

The remains were identified through DNA analysis in August 2015, and her husband, Michael Haim, was charged with her murder.

Haim was arrested in North Carolina, where he was living with his current wife.

Haim's trial had been set for next month but has been delayed until November.
