Jeremy Wright was shot three times, but his injuries were not life-threatening, according to the incident report.

Wright's father, Michael Wright, drove from Alabama to Jacksonville as soon as he heard about his son and visited with him in the hospital.

"Some guy in the bar was acting strange and he grabbed a lady's purse and Jimmy grabbed him and the guy shot him three times," Michael Wright said. "Detectives came to him at the hospital and told him when they catch him, it's attempted murder."

According to the incident report, the shooter and another man were watching the woman play pool, and the shooter asked her for a cigarette and then grabbed her purse.

That's when Jeremy Wright wrestled the man to the floor, and the man pulled out a handgun and shot Wright three times in the hip. The other man kicked Wright in the head and both ran out of the pool hall.

Police said the shooter was wearing a black hoodie at the time, but they do not have a good description of him. They are hoping surveillance cameras will be able to provide some better information.

Michael Wright said he is hoping police will find the shooter soon.

"You always think this kind of stuff happens to everybody else," he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
