MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Thousands of people are planning to wake up Friday morning and finish Eliza Fletcher’s run after the 34-year-old was abducted and killed.
Police in Tennessee said Tuesday they had found the body of a Memphis woman abducted during a pre-dawn run, confirming fears that Eliza Fletcher was killed after she was forced into an SUV on Friday morning last week.
The 8.2-mile run was left incomplete by the horrible acts a man made by kidnapping and taking the life of the teacher and mother of two.
As of Thursday, more than 2,000 runners are planning to meet to complete the route around 4:20 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, according to a “Let’s Finish Liza’s Run” Facebook event page.
“We created this run as a way to honor Liza and cope with our own feelings,” the people that organized the run said. “Our goal is to stand up for the women in the Mid South and emphasize that women should be able to safely run any time of day.”
