Restaurant helps make wedding possible despite Hurricane Matthew

Enza's Italian Wedding hosts young couple's wedding ceremony

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Often times, mother nature has its own agenda, and it does not care what people have planned.

A young couple who had been planning their wedding for a year felt the effects of Hurricane Matthew before the storm even hit when they learned they had to cancel their wedding on Anastasia Island on Friday.

But as soon as a Jacksonville restaurant learned of the cancelation, it stepped in to help Austin and Gabriel Scribner.

Gabriel Scribner was heartbroken when she learned her wedding had to be canceled, but she knew it was for the best. But the groom's parents jumped in and made a few phone calls.

Enza's Italian Restaurant on San Jose Boulevard offered to host the dinner part and altered the wedding Thursday night.

"I'm just glad to be here for them. It was an answered prayer, without a doubt," said Enza Huff, owner of Enza's Italian Restaurant.

The restaurant even set up a disco ball for guests to enjoy.

"They put this together. It's beautiful. It was wonderful," said Debbie Scribner, mother of the groom.

And the bride's father, who's a Florida Highway Patrol trooper, was even able to attend the ceremony before going on standby with the National Guard.

"My supervisors have been awesome. Highway Patrol has been awesome. They really looked after me in all our times of need," said Mike Orton, father of the bride.

The bride and groom left the ceremony Thursday night to head to Orlando.

"Everybody's continuing to say that we should name our first child Matthew. It's not going to happen," Gabriel Scribner said.
