JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville teenager will be granted his wish this weekend after overcoming a rarest kind of muscular dystrophy.
Garrett Mosley, 14, and his parents began the first leg of their magical trip Friday. His wish will be just one of nearly 200 wishes granted by the Dreams Come True Organization.
Garrett was diagnosed with Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy when he was 13 years old.
“He was born and it took them a while to diagnose what he had. He kept complaining about leg pain and weakness,” said Denise Walker, Garrett’s mother.
His disease prevents him from playing sports, so he turned his attention to politics, news and cars.
“It started a few years ago when I found out about the Cadillac CTS V, which was one of the fastest production cars at the time, especially from America,” Garrett said.
Garrett, who has dreams of attending Harvard University, already made one of his dreams come true when he visited the Channel 4 studios.
But when it came time to attend his Dreams Come True party, he wasn't expecting another surprise.
That surprise came in the form of a video. While watching it, Garrett found out he would be spending all day with his favorite automotive guru, Youtuber Kyle Lindsey.
“Hey Garrett! This is Kyle! I can't wait to meet you on the 21st,” Lindsey said in the video.
Garrett will fly to Charlotte, North Carolina, and spend an entire day with Lindsay visiting Porsche and BMW dealerships. Garrett and his family will also catch a NBA game between the Charlotte Hornets and the Toronto Raptors.
Garrett's favorite News4Jax reporter Francesca Amiker was invited to attend the party. She asked him what he planned to say to Lindsey first.
“It's going to be, like, 'an honor to meet you.’ Because I've never actually met someone like that before," Garrett answered.
It’s safe to say Garrett better start his engine because the next few days, he’ll be living out his dream in the fast lane.
“This is our mission: Granting dreams for children right here in our community. And to be able to send Garrett on his dream and celebrate it with him before he goes, this is why we’re all here,” said Andrea Siracusa, senior manager of Programs and Community Relations at Dreams Come True of Jacksonville.
News4Jax will check back with Garrett and his family after his wish is fulfilled.
