Indoor trampoline park opens early for special needs kids, families

Jumpstreet Indoor Trampoline Park offers special needs kids own time to play

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – An area indoor trampoline park is helping kick off National Autism Awareness Month Saturday by opening its doors early so special needs kids and their families can have their own time to play.

The Jumpstreet Indoor Trampoline Park in Jacksonville Beach understands that for parents with children who have autism, it can be a struggle to find something for them do to that makes them comfortable.

Jumpstreet opens its doors early on the first Saturday each month to accommodate special needs kids and their families.

News4Jax spoke with Marla Bahlmann, who has a daughter with autism. She said she’s grateful to have a place for her daughter to play comfortably.

“I think it's great because, normally, she (her daughter) wouldn't be able to come with a large crowd, it upsets her, and to be able to come here before they open, and allow her to be able to learn how to do the different activities is really great for kids like her,” Bahlmann said. “This is our first time here, but I think we will be returning.”

Lacey Lowes has autism and has high praise for Jumpstreet.

“It's really cool,” Lacey said. “The obstacle is probably a bit too hard because of the rings, but I think it's a really good place. This is just a great time for me, and I want every kid my age to come to this because it's probably the best trampoline park ever.”

Jenna Rios manages Jumpstreet and says it's a rewarding part of her job to see the kids having fun.

“When they first come into the store, they are very excited to be here," Rios said. "They want to do everything right when they walk through the door, and when they leave, they want to keep playing."

Rios says the kids don't know it, but while they are having fun, they are actually learning skills.

“It helps with motor skills, with just regular body movement and with their social skills as well,” Rios said.
