Color the Weather highlights early education, helps families envision a bright path forward

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Color the Weather with Meteorologist Katie Garner is a heartwarming, STEM-focused community initiative developed in partnership between IDEA Public Schools and News4JAX.

Each week, a student from IDEA Public Schools will deliver the forecast alongside meteorologist Katie Garner, providing young students with a unique opportunity to explore science and public speaking in a fun and engaging environment.

This initiative not only inspires early curiosity in meteorology and STEM but also uplifts IDEA’s commitment to academic excellence and joyful learning.

Color the Weather: Adam’s Forecast ☀️📚

Adam, a rising 6th grader at IDEA Public Schools, shared with Katie that his favorite kind of weather is snow, especially when he gets to see it during visits to Atlanta, Georgia! A big fan of both football and baseball, Adam dreams of going pro one day. He’s also a passionate learner and did an outstanding job helping Katie present the seven-day forecast on Thursday, June 26.

Color the Weather: Jordyn’s Forecast ☀️📚

Jordyn, an incoming 3rd grader at IDEA Public Schools, had her moment in the spotlight on July 3 as she confidently delivered the seven-day forecast during the noon weather segment with Katie. While she’s still exploring what she wants to be when she grows up, her enthusiasm, curiosity, and poise make one thing clear—the sky’s the limit!

Color the Weather: Reyna’s Forecast with Michelle ☀️📚

Reyna joined Michelle on July 11 to be a meteorologist for the day! She proudly shared her weather-themed drawings on air, showcasing different weather events we often experience here in Northeast Florida. With her enthusiasm and curiosity, Reyna clearly has a bright future—and a big love for weather!

Color the Weather: Seeing double! Natalie and Norman’s Forecast ☀️📚

Natalie and Norman, students at IDEA Public Schools, joined Katie to do the afternoon weather on July 16. Norman told our viewers that it’s going to be raining and sunny for the remainder of the week. Why? Because it’s Florida, of course! Great job, Natalie and Norman!

Color the Weather: Emory‘s Forecast ☀️📚

Emory, a bright student from IDEA Public Schools, joined Katie at the station on Wednesday, July 23—and he absolutely stole the show! He proudly shared his weather drawing with viewers at home, and his infectious enthusiasm and positive attitude instantly won us over. Emory said that when he gets older, he wants to be a YouTuber and a police officer. His energy lit up the studio, and he’s welcome back any time!

Color the Weather: Marion’s Forecast ☀️📚

Marion, who has attended IDEA Public Schools for three years, loves to learn and strives to be a good scholar every day! He presented his drawing on August 1 alongside Meteorologist Michelle McCormick. He also provided the forecast to help our viewers stay safe in the heat! Great job, Marion!

Color the Weather: Jaliyah and Dei’va’s Forecast ☀️

Jaliyah and Dei’va, students from IDEA Public Schools, joined Katie Garner during the noon forecast on August 6 to share this week’s weather outlook. During their segment, the girls mentioned their dreams of becoming actresses in the future. They also advised viewers to prepare for scattered thunderstorms on Friday and a very saturated weekend ahead. Great job, Jaliyah and Dei’va!

Color the Weather: Omarion’s Forecast ☀️📚

He may have been a little shy, but Omarion, a student at IDEA Public Schools, shined bright while helping Katie with the noon weather on Aug. 13! He forecast sunny skies, and for him, it was “opposite day” with no rain in sight. Fantastic job, Omarion!

Color the Weather: Christopher’s Forecast ☀️📚

Coming in with confidence, Christopher—a student at IDEA Public Schools—joined meteorologist Katie Garner on Wednesday, Aug. 20, to help deliver the forecast. He proudly shared his tornado drawing along with a page showcasing every type of weather condition we might experience here in Northeast Florida. Christopher was ready for the spotlight, telling us he dreams of becoming a famous news reporter like Bruce Hamilton one day. Fantastic job, Christopher—you’re already shining on screen!

Color the Weather: Miyah’s Forecast ☀️📚

Miyah, a student at IDEA Public Schools, joined meteorologist Katie Garner on Friday, August 29, to help deliver the forecast. A true Picasso at heart, Miyah gifted Katie a stunning rainbow drawing—an hour-long masterpiece that left everyone impressed. But her talents don’t stop at art. As a cheerleader who has performed in front of thousands, Miyah brought her confidence to the forecast, telling us with ease that we can expect rain and highs in the 80s to kick off Labor Day weekend.

Great job, Miyah! We can’t wait to see all that you’ll accomplish. The sky’s the limit!
