JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The "ultimate" Jacksonville Jaguars fan is not only busy cheering on the team this year, but getting his man cave back up and running after it was burned down more than a year ago.
Charles Setting is hard to miss at Sunday home games at EverBank Field. He's always in the front row, decked out in gear with his face painted like a Jaguar.
He loves to have the same experience at his house during away games. So when his man cave caught fire 1 1/2 years ago, Setting wanted to build it back up bigger and better.
"If it wasn't for the wife keeping up the spirits, and stuff like that, it would have been really devastating," Setting said.
Setting showed News4Jax photos of what was once his favorite place to be. He said looking through the old pictures is difficult.
"It was heartbreaking when I look back at it. But where we've come from and just the support and faith in that and (the) support of the community, we overcame it," Setting said.
Just before the Super Bowl in 2014, part of Setting's home went up in flames.
"I was out here and I had a fire pit going in the back corner and stuff, you know, I thought I had it out when I went in the house. But I guess the fence was a little hotter than it was supposed to be and it caught on fire," Setting said.
On Thursday, Setting gave News4Jax a tour of his new man cave, which he and his wife have been rebuilding for nearly two years.
"We put in a brand new pool and took the old pool out. We put in a nice bar around the pool area. We put in a fireplace instead of a fire pit now. So it's a lot safer and a lot better contained," Setting said.
This season, there are many new additions to the party patio, including mementos from the stadium before it was renovated.
"What's so cool about these chairs, it's seats one and two. We sat at seat one and two at the stadium. Of course, I don't sit, I stand in front of my chair all day," Setting said.
The new and improved cave is covered in teal, gold and black. Setting said he's also bought some of the Jaguars gear, but like the support he's been given over the years, a lot of the memorabilia came from the community.
"The Jags fans and the Jaguars all came and they donated stuff. I had so many fans donating and helping us with this. What the Jaguars did for me is unspeakable," Setting said.
The "ultimate" Jaguars fan said he usually hosts about 30 people in his cave for the away games and, of course, he and his wife utilize it on a daily basis.
But when the Jaguars play at home, Setting is guaranteed to be cheering on his team at EverBank Field.
