JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The first day of Jaguars training camp in the books.
The offseason flew by, but now it is time. So let’s fire up the old notebook, crack up the Twitter fingers, and talk about what is happening. Throughout the offseason, one of the things we have talked about is the different energy around the team. Sometimes, that stuff feels like lip service, just a way to talk about a fresh start, but this isn’t just lip service. It is different.

Dawuane Smoot has spent most of his career with the Jags so he has seen a lot of changes, a lot of new staffs the ups and the downs over the years. I asked him if he could notice the change he said, “you walk in and everybody is smiling.”
That speaks volumes. And those aren’t just first day of camp smiles.
“I came in the last week of OTAs and they were still smiling,” Smoot said.
So legit, things are different but good different. It is also not because it was a light practice by first day of camp vibes they got after it a good bit.
But let’s get straight to it.
📓 Notebook 📓
- The Jaguars placed Maason Smith on the physically unable to perform list on Tuesday. Liam Coen said he “tweaked” something.
- Arik Armstead was dressed and on the field but didn’t see much action during team drills.
- Defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile wants the Jaguars to have that Mamba mentality.
- “Everything is about Kobe about Mamba, about the mentality. We watched a jaguar video yesterday about him attacking a crocodile he didn’t even eat it. The Jaguars didn’t even eat it he just went in there to fight it. So he had a whole speech about that,” Smoot said.
- Trevor Tracker: Trevor Lawrence was 7 for 13 during the team drills. Some of those incompletes weren’t his fault. Lawrence mentioned after practice feeling like it was a good day overall and seeing the progress since he first started throwing in OTA’s.
- Dropped passes popped up a few times from the top guys. Dyami Brown and Brian Thomas Jr. both had drops during the first day.
- Coen was very vocal on the field with Lawrence. Even running up to him after one throw that a dropped saying good job to the QB.
- Aydan White isn’t a name that many know, but he had the defensive play of the day. The rookie came up with a big interception along the sideline off a Nick Mullens throw. Nice play from the rookie. He was a guy that the coaches said to watch because White always seemed to be around the ball.
- Joshua Cephus would be my standout guy on offense today. He dropped his first target of the day but immediately flipped the script with a nice catch in tight coverage and a great diving catch deep down the field.
- Offensive day for Travis Hunter spent all of practice with wide receivers. He went out to the field early to do some receiver drills, working on his hands and getting off the line before practice. While Brian Thomas Jr. and Dyami Brown did that drill during practice, he was working with defensive backs coach Ron Milus. The balancing act for him will be interesting to watch.
