Sporting JAX women ready for historic opening match on Saturday at UNF
Twenty-four players are on the Sporting Jax team, including at least 10 who are from the Jacksonville area. They’ll play 16 home matches at UNF’s Hodges Stadium. (Sporting Jax)
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – History is on the clock for the Sporting JAX soccer organization.
On Saturday night, Sporting JAX will play its inaugural match at UNF’s Hodges Stadium. It’s the launch point for what will eventually become a massive soccer organization that fields both men’s and women’s teams in the USL.
The women start it off first in the Gainbridge Super League, hosting DC Power FC at 8 p.m. The men will begin play in the USL Championship league, with an expected start next year.
But first things first, the women are on the clock.
The march to Saturday began in August 2022 when the ownership group of Tim Tebow, Steve Livingstone, Ricky Caplin and Tony Allegretti made the bold announcement .
