Rank, (previous), team, record, classification

1. (1) Beachside (6-1, Class 5A)

Quality wins: Episcopal, New Smyrna Beach, Ponte Vedra, South Walton.

Notable: The Barracudas handled Ponte Vedra in a sweep in last week’s highly touted Super 6 showdown. They followed with a 3-0 of Creekside. They round out the week with Atlantic Coast on Thursday. Beachside is unquestionably the area’s top team now. There’s another really good showdown on Sept. 16 at Providence. Adriana Jeanpierre (102 kills, 68 digs), Mollie VanDeusen (57 kills, 107 assists, 70 digs), Isabella Taveras Seda (114 digs) and Erica Duffy (106 assists, 44 kills) are powering the area’s best team. I know we’re a long, long way away, but this year is all about beating Chiles in the regionals.

2. (2) Ponte Vedra (6-5, Class 5A)

Quality wins: Boca Raton Christian, Bolles, Daphne (Ala.), Middleburg, Ridgeview.

Notable: The Sharks bounced back from a sweep by Beachside with a 3-1 win over an always good Middleburg. Huge match on Saturday against powerhouse Chiles followed by major local games next week against Providence (Sept. 15) and Fleming Island (Sept. 16), both on the road. Ellie Decker (46 kills), Vivi Woodbury (42 kills) and Lily Keely (42 kills) are leading the attack. Avery Webb has 111 digs to lead the defense. Haydin Froehlich is up to 223 assists running the offense. I’m not penalizing the Sharks for a loss to Beachside. They’ve played the area’s most difficult schedule, according to MaxPreps, so I’m giving a little bit of a break when it comes to the losses.

3. (3) Bishop Kenny (7-3, Class 4A)

Quality wins: Creekside, Mountain Brook (Ala.), Providence, Riviera Prep, Strawberry Crest, True North.

Notable: The Crusaders dropped their lone match since our last Super 6, losing 3-1 to rival Bolles in what is arguably the area’s top volleyball rivalry. That loss ended a six-match winning streak over the Bulldogs. Tough matches ahead, too. Kenny has Fleming Island (Thursday) and Chiles (Saturday) left this week. Mattie Wilkey (63 kills), Lilian Heldenbrand (57 kills) and Chelsea Akakatang (50 kills) are powering Kenny at the net. Sophia Miller has 143 assists, followed by Mia Ancayan (99). Alexis Sowers (135 digs) and Lauren McCarthy (103) are leading the defense.

4. (4) Providence (5-1, Class 2A)

Quality win: Tocoi Creek, Trinity Christian.

Notable: A couple sweeps since our last Super 6, wins over Tocoi Creek and St. Johns Country Day. Isabela Lopez has 100 kills. Emma Clifton (148 assists), Addison Shaw (93 digs) and Ryleigh Repass (20 blocks) top those categories for Providence. The lone loss came in a 3-2 match against Bishop Kenny.

T5. (T5) Fleming Island (7-1, Class 5A)

Quality wins: Bolles, Fletcher, Mandarin, Ridgeview.

Notable: Sweeps over Creekside and Orange Park, teams with a combined 1-13 record, since our last Super 6. They round out the week with a match at Bishop Kenny. Next week, it’s Ponte Vedra (Sept. 16) and Tocoi Creek (Sept. 18). Lauren Brosky (99 kills) and Lillie Eason (81 kills, 75 digs) are having good seasons at the net. Setter Hazel Williams (145 assists) and Alana Santiago (102) are sharing the offensive assist load.

T5. (T5) Trinity Christian (8-4, Class 2A)

Quality wins: Bishop Kenny, Christ’s Church, Gainesville, Middleburg, St. Augustine, Timber Creek.

Notable: Trinity beat Oakleaf 3-1 in their lone match since our last Super 6. Up next is a quality Holy Trinity Episcopal team on Friday in tournament action. Next week, the Conquerors face Ridgeview (Sept. 16) and University Christian (Sept. 18). Nova Hewlett has 147 kills and 95 digs for the Conquerors. Emma Hernesman has dished out 269 assists.
