JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Camden County’s football program is turning to a new head coach with a familiar name.
The school district finalized the hire of Tucker Pruitt this week, bringing in the former Appling County and Fitzgerald head coach to help stabilize the program.

It’s the second head coaching hire of the offseason for the Wildcats. The school parted ways with Travis Roland following a 6-4 season and the first playoff miss since 2017. They announced the hire of Jon Lindsey just days after that, but Lindsey abruptly resigned for “personal, unforeseen reasons” just over a month later.
Pruitt will bring stability to Camden. He’s been a head coach for nine years, the bulk of those at Fitzgerald. He reached the state semifinals and beyond six years, including winning the Class 2A state title in 2021. Pruitt won three region championships and is 90-31 in his career. He coached last season at Appling County and went 8-4. Pruitt’s worst season as a coach was 4-7 in his first season at Fitzgerald in 2017. He’s won no less than eight games in every season since.

It’s been a wild offseason in South Georgia. Brunswick’s Garrett Grady resigned and was replaced by Byron Slack. Charlton County head coach Demario Jones also left that program for a position elsewhere.
Pruitt comes from excellent coaching genes. His father, Robby, is one of the most successful football coaches in high school football history. Robby became the first coach in high school football history to win 200 games in both Florida and Georgia when he passed that milestone last year at Williston. He left Williston and returned to Union County, a place where he won three consecutive state championships, in the offseason.
